Posted date: March 11, 2022

On Friday, 11 March 2022; the Cambodian Institute of Cooperation and Peace with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Cambodia have co-organized a Roundtable Discussion on “Cambodia’s 2022 ASEAN Chairmanship: Expectations and Possibilities” at Raffles Hotel Le Royal and via Zoom from 9: 00 – 11: 00 AM (Cambodia Time).

Keytakeaways:

  1. As the 2022 ASEAN Chair, Cambodia is expected to face critical challenges such as the Myanmar Crisis, the COC, the geopolitical rivalry, the Russia-Ukraine issue, Post Covid-19 recovery and many more. Nevertheless Cambodia stands firm, remains resilient, and ready to contribute its best as the ASEAN Chair.
  2. The current Myanmar crisis and Ukraine-Russia issues have unveiled challenges to the ASEAN unity. The Chair is expected to find the practical solutions to alleviate the tensions and conflicts.
  3. Cambodia’s success is ASEAN’s success. All Member States should proactively support Cambodia to fund ways to operationalize the ASEAN 5-point Consensus by engaging with the Junta and other relevant stakeholders in a well-balanced manner.
  4. Cambodia should be treated fairly and given a fair chance to prove its resolve in assisting Myanmar returns to normalcy.
