Earlier this year, CICP has initiated a new research project entitled" Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Water Resources Sharing Platform: Building Voice, Improving Best Practice" with the kind support of Oxfam in Cambodia. The project attempts to explore how to support and positively impact the development of this new platform such that the outcomes thereof are both directly beneficial to local, riparian communities. It is also aimed to facilitate increased “voice” on the part of those communities and to determine the most ignored issues that have been highlighted by individuals at the grassroots level, as development and implementation of the platform moves forward. The past several years have seen an unprecedented inflow of Chinese investments to Cambodia, resulting in a huge increase in the number of Chinese people in this Asian country. Chinese investment projects have previously been concentrated in the Cambodian capital city, Phnom Penh, but the focus has recently been shifted to Sihanoukville, a coastal province of Cambodia.
