In his latest Op-Ed entitled “We Must Stop Mass Atrocities in Myanmar – Now” published on 8 April 2021 in the Jakarta Post, Amb. Pou Sothirak, CICP Executive Director and former Cambodian R2P National Focal Point, shares his perspective on what lessons can be drawn from the Cambodian experience in dealing with mass atrocities and examine the implications of complacency by the global community in the wake of mounting death tolls and steadily increasing violence in Myanmar. “Whatever the response, the crisis in Myanmar will invariably have long-term impacts not just for Myanmar, but also the future of regional and global governance and international norms with regard to the role of military in the state governance, including protection of civilians.”, he writes.
