Journal of Greater Mekong Studies
Call for Papers: Journal of Greater Mekong Studies, Volume 07
Volume 07
Overview of the Journal
The Journal of Greater Mekong Studies (JGMS) is the flagship publication of the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace (CICP) headquartered in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The lead editors are Bradley J. Murg and Deth Sok Udom, faculty in the Department of International Relations at Paragon International University and senior fellows at CICP. JGMS was established in 2019 through a grant provided by the Embassy of the United States of America in Phnom Penh and today is supported by The Asia Foundation’s Ponlok Chomnes program and the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The remit of the journal is to provide a space for scholars and analysts to examine issues impacting the Greater Mekong Subregion (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam).
Thematic Focus: Climate Change
In this volume of JGMS, the editorial board seeks submissions around the theme of climate change and the impacts thereof on the Greater Mekong Subregion. Priority will be given to articles that examine the implications of climate change for the Mekong itself, river flow, disaster preparedness, food supply, intra-subregional cooperation in the mitigation of the effects of climate change. However, articles on all aspects of climate change are strongly welcomed.
Types of Articles Accepted
The journal only accepts original research articles. These submissions are generally 2,500 – 5000 words including all tables, footnotes, and bibliography (excluding the abstract). Authors are encouraged to focus on the climate change theme of the volume. However, half of the journal’s space is reserved for articles examining non-thematic topics of importance to the security and economic development of the Greater Mekong Subregion and the sustainability of the Mekong River in particular. In this volume, the editors anticipate a total of 10-15 articles will be accepted. The author(s) of an accepted article will receive a $300 honorarium that will be deposited in their designated account via wire transfer following publication.
Submission Guidelines
Review Process
When JGMS was established in 2019, the journal was structured as a curated space in which authors whose work was known to CICP were invited to contribute on a particular topic. In this seventh edition, JGMS completes its transition to a journal where submissions are open and a double-blind peer review process is followed. Following an initial quality check and desk review, manuscripts will generally receive two independent reviews and authors will be notified of the decision within 45 days of submission. Authors will receive a letter from the editors explaining the decision as well as copies of the reviewer reports. Invitations to revise and resubmit will only be issued when the editors see a strong likelihood of publication and the feasibility of revision within 90 days of notification.
