The Journal of Greater Mekong Studies (JGMS), published by the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace (CICP) and Paragon International University, invites submissions for its ninth edition, a special issue examining the Cambodia–Thailand conflict and its implications for bilateral relations, trust building, and the future of integration in the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS). The journal publishes peer-reviewed scholarship that advances empirical, theoretical, and policy-relevant understanding of regional dynamics in the Mekong region.
Scope and Themes
This special edition welcomes original research and analytical contributions that examine the Cambodia–Thailand conflict from historical, political, economic, legal, and strategic perspectives. Approximately half of the accepted articles will focus directly on the bilateral relationship, including analyses of conflict drivers, diplomatic engagement, confidence- and trust-building measures, post-conflict or de-escalatory pathways, and prospects for cooperation. Submissions that explore next steps in the bilateral relationship and assess implications for the future of GMS integration are particularly encouraged.
The issue also welcomes manuscripts that situate Cambodia–Thailand relations within broader regional and comparative contexts. Topics of interest include regional integration and connectivity, political economy and governance, security and conflict management, cross-border cooperation, environmental and resource governance, migration and mobility, and the evolving institutional architecture of the Greater Mekong Subregion. The journal welcomes original research articles, review and analytical essays, policy analyses, and research notes that offer empirically grounded, theoretically informed, or policy-relevant insights. Authors of accepted and published manuscripts will receive an honorarium of $300.
Submission and formatting guidelines
Manuscripts must be original and not under consideration elsewhere. Submissions should be written in clear academic English and prepared in accordance with APA style guidelines, 7th edition. This includes in-text citations, reference lists, headings, tables, and figures formatted according to APA guidelines. All submissions will undergo a double-blind peer review process. Authors should ensure that identifying information is removed from the manuscript and provided only on a separate title page. An abstract of no more than 200 words and 4–6 keywords should accompany each submission.
The deadline for manuscript submission is August 20, 2026. Notification of review outcomes will follow completion of the peer review process. The special issue is scheduled for publication later in 2026. Manuscripts should be submitted electronically to: editor@cicp.org.kh
